November 05, 2009: Minister of Sports has granted approval for the 17-member swimming team that will represent Sri Lanka at the 11th South Asian Games which will be held next year in Bangladesh.
Heshan Unambuwa will captain the team which comprise nine men and eight women picked through the selection trials held on the 22nd and 24th of last month at the National Aquatic Championship organized by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union.Conrad Francis, Dilina Dissanayake, K. V. S. Priyadharshana, C. B. Wickramasinghe, Pasindu Thamalsha, Althaf Yakoob, Diluka Thibbotumunuwe and Rasith Chalanga have been included in men’s team.
Meanwhile the women’s team will be made up by Madhavee Weeratunga, Reshika Udugampola, Gihara Amarasinghe, Miniruwani Samarakoon, Udara Kumaratunga, Mineka Karunarathne and Shehani Mediwake.
The South Asian Games will be held from the 29th of January to the 8th of February in Dhaka, Bangladesh next year.
