The Elections Commissioner has issued a circular banning the use of state property for election activities.
The Election Secretariat noted that the relevant circular had been sent to the President’s Secretary and to the Secretaries of all ministries, Public Services Commission, Police Commission, District Secretaries and Secretaries of governors.Thereby new laws will be implemented for the use of state owned vehicles and even helicopters, during the election period.
The Elections Secretariat further noted that the fleet of vehicles should be maintained in a manner that they will not be used by candidates.
The circular adds that this will encompass official vehicles given to state officials as well.
