December 07, 2009:
A media centre was opened yesterday for election propaganda activities of General Sarath Fonseka at Colombo 7.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the media centre, the General said that he would carry out his propaganda activities by protecting media freedom for a free and fair election.

Addressing the event, JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the media centre was being entrusted with the task of opening the door on democracy, establishing good governance and creating a justifiable atmosphere unlike the others who had closed the door on democracy by engaging in large scale corruption scandals and misleading the public.

Mangala Samaraweera, convenor of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Mahajana Wing said information would be released from the new centre till the 23rd of next month.

“We will launch our campaign on the 17th of December after General Fonseka hands over his nomination.

“We will hold our first presidential election rally on the 18th of this month in Kandy which is incidentally the date on which General Fonseka celebrates his birthday,” said Mr. Samaraweera.

Rauf Hakeem, leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) described the General as an individual who carried out the war in a very strong manner.

“They are trying to carry out a campaign against the General who was even commended by them. It is very clear that they are trying to falsely misinterpret the General's opinion and the stand that he bears regarding the minorities in the country,” said Mr. Hakeem.
