December 09, 2009: President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared open a monument today, where the final stages of the war in the north took place.
The monument was built in memory of all those who contributed towards defeating terrorism, stated the president's media unit.The Secretary of Defence and several high ranking military personnel were also present at the occasion.
The media unit added that the President had met with those who had contributed towards the Wanni operation as well.
The President had also engaged in an observation tour of the area.
